Mary Lou McCabe

       COSHOCTON- Mary Lou McCabe, 92, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2026 at the Genesis Medical Center of Coshocton.

       She was born May 19, 1934 in Coshocton to the late Harry Clement and Anna Regina (Royer) Bordenkircher. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic School class of 1952, and on October 3, 1953 she married David Lawrence McCabe who preceded her in death on November 1, 2014. Their life together took them across the country from Maryland to Florida to California and then abroad to Saudi Arabia for five years before they returned to their home town to settle in Coshocton.

       Mary Lou was a committed wife and mother who guided her children with a firm belief in preparing them for life’s rigors and with an abiding faith in Christian principles and values. Her energy was extraordinary and never seemed to fade, even in her final days. She sewed many of her children's clothes when they were young, including her eldest son's first blazer, and had a gift for figuring out how to do almost anything — her answer when asked how she did it, was simply that “no one ever told me I couldn't.”

       In her later years, she found joy in flowers, often helping her son-in-law, the Hon. Tim France, tend the greenhouse and plant the ornamental blooms that still color Coshocton's streets. Among her many talents, she was also a gifted crocheter, and ensured that all her children, and grandchildren and often, special friends, received her hand made throws that are beautiful heirlooms year-round and cozy when it’s cool. She kept her standards high but fair, maintaining a spotless home throughout her life, a habit she maintained even at the Homestead in her final days. She held her family to those same standards as they grew, but her love was unconditional and she found ways to ensure the needs of her family were always met. She will be deeply missed.

       Mary Lou is survived by her seven children, Richard (Maura) McCabe of Myrtle Beach, SC, Victoria VanKlaveren of Red Bud, Illinois, Cynthia (Bob) Yingling of Suffolk, VA, Deborah (Rob) Ford of Coshocton, David (Diane) McCabe of Beavercreek, Daphne (Tim) France of Coshocton, and James Patrick (Sherrye) McCabe of Marysville; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way; and 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister, Arlene (Doug) Glazier of Ft Myers, FL; and two nephews, Chris (Lori) Glazier, and Matt (Annettia) Glazier.

       In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother James “Jim” Bordenkircher; brother Harry Richard “Rich” Bordenkircher; and a granddaughter, Chale Donahue.

       Friends and family may visit from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2026 at Fischer Funeral Home, 412 E. Main St. Warsaw, OH 43844. A procession will follow to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 805 Main St. Coshocton, OH 43812, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Father Sunder Ery officiating. A live stream will be available at service time on this page. Following the mass, Mary Lou will be laid to rest beside her husband at South Lawn Cemetery in Coshocton.
