Danville - Mary Emma (McConnell) Miller, 88, passed away Tuesday August 5, 2014, at her residence.
She was born in Knox County on October 5, 1925 to Daisy Belle (Long) and Rae R. McConnell. She obtained a Bachelors Degree in Math and Physical Education from Otterbein College in 1947, and taught at Howard and Danville schools for more than 25 years. She married Wesley O. "Pete" Miller on June 27, 1947. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2000.
She was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women, the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame, where she exhibited in sewing and baking, and was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America, including being a former Scout Leader. Mary was also very involved in bowling and table tennis. She was an Ohio Sr. Olympics athlete, and was part of several bowling leagues at Charger and Colonial City Lanes.
Surviving are her daughters; Diana (Bob) Ready of Mount Vernon, Charlene (Steve) Schnarr of Danville, and Tammy Proper of Danville, 10 grandchildren; Danya (Sean) Platt of Centerburg, Robyn (Conner) Watson Orlando, FL, Kevin (Heather) Ready of Mansfield, Shannon (Jesse) Johnson of Clearwater, FL, Jennifer Schnarr England, Krista Schnarr Columbus, Stephanie (Jess) Aumiller of Danville, Katie Schnarr of Columbus, Kelly Smith of Danville, and Kerri Proper of Mount Vernon, 10 great grandchildren; Xavier, Caedmon, Levi, and Aubrey Platt, Zach and Yahshua Schnarr, Addison and Mason Ready, and Tyler and Logan Johnson, a sister, Sarah Daniels, and a sister-in-law, Ruth McConnell.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Elizabeth Wolfe, and a brother, William McConnell.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Granddaughter Krista Schnarr will officiate. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery, and a meal will follow at the Danville U.M.C. on Market St. Calling hours will be from 6-8 on Thursday the 14th.
