Max S. Samples

Danville - Max S. Samples, 88, died Friday July 8, 2011 at the Knox Community Hospital.

He was born November 1, 1922 in Mount Vernon to Creta Belle (Stricker) and French Samples. He was a retired special projects supervisor for the Ohio State Highway Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1941-45 on the U.S.S. Kidd. He was a member of the Danville Post #650 of the American Legion, and of the U.S.S. Kidd Association, for destroyer veterans, and the Samples racing team. He had an affiliation with the Danville Church of the Brethren, and enjoyed spending his winters playing shuffleboard in Lake Wales, FL, and his summers fishing in Canada.

Max is survived by his wife of 59 years; Louise (Veatch) Samples, his brother; Ronald Samples of Howard, many much loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his cousins of Cleveland and Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Ruth Friedli, and brothers; Charles, Don, Bob, and Bill Samples.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday July 13, 2011 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Pastor Al Hockley will officiate. Burial, with graveside military rites by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Workman Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4-7 on Tuesday at the funeral home.
