HOWARD- Mona Evelyn Mavis, 89, of Mary St., died Friday June 1, 2012 at the Ohio Eastern Star home in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Nov. 9, 1922 in Knox Co. to the late Lester and Mary (Phillips) Wharton. She was a 1940 graduate of Howard High School. She married her high school "sweetheart", Robert D. Mavis in 1941, who preceded her in death on May 23, 1977. She was a member of the Howard Church of Christ and the Rake & Hoe Garden Club.
She is survived by four daughters; Mary Sue Scoles, Connie (Allen) Earnest, Patty Hill, and Roberta (Lewis) Frazee, all of Howard, thirteen grandchildren; Joe, Brad, & Samantha Scoles, Allen (Jackie) Earnest, Melissa Earnest, Jennifer Calhoun, Angela & Noel Ferry, Brittany & Kendra Harris, Nyle (Rachel) Hill, and Mavis & Garrett Frazee, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Betty Mills of Millwood.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Sapp, and two grandsons; Mike Scoles and Robert Raymond Scoles.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday June 4, 2012 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow at Workman Cemetery. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home in Monday. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
