Robert J. Mowery

COSHOCTON- Robert James Mowery, 86, of 43279 US 36, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born Oct. 7, 1924 in Coshocton to the late Walter J. and Mary E. (Zaugg) Mowery. He married June (Conner) Mowery on Aug. 31, 1949, who survives. He was a graduate of Warsaw High School, and a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army. He was a member of the Bethlehem Grange, a 61 year member of the Warsaw Masonic Lodge #255, a member of the Warsaw United Methodist Church, the Ohio Eastern Star, a co-originator of Bowman Station Livestock, a 4-H Club Advisor for several years, a trustee River View High School FFA, a past-member of the board of education for Warsaw & River View High Schools, and helped establish River View High School, and he was a former Republican Central Committeeman.

He was a lifetime farmer, and he enjoyed the Coshocton County Fair and helping with the Grange displays. He enjoyed many years of playing cards, square-dancing, dominos, and puzzles. He performed in many plays and skits for the grange, and he was well known as a practical joker. He loved to laugh, and loved playing with his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, June Mowery of Coshocton, three daughters; Lois (Dale) King of Conesville, Carol Bookless of Roscoe, and Jo Ann Hennen of Coshocton, a son, Walter Lisa) Mowery of Coshocton, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two sisters; Mildred Scherer of Canal Lewisville, and Margaret (Jack) Cullison of Warsaw, and a brother, Ward (Anita) Mowery of Louisville, KY.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Mowery, a brother, John Mowery, and four brothers-in-law; Gene Brenneman, Dual McCarty, Arthur "Dutch" Ridenbaugh, and Leland Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Rev. Ron Little & Rev. Dairel Kaiser officiating. Interment will follow in Valley View Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, with a Masonic Service performed by the Warsaw Masonic Lodge #255 at 6:45 p.m.
