Ronald Samples

Newark - Ronald David Samples, 90, formerly of Howard, passed away on Wednesday August 25, 2021.

He was born on February 16, 1931 to French and Creta (Stricker) Samples, who preceded him in death along with his sister, Ruth Friedli, and his brothers, Charles, Don, Bob, Bill, and Max Samples. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, and was a member of the American Legion Post #650. Ron was also a member of the former Howard United Methodist Church.

His hobbies included talking about the best roads to take to get to New Castle, tinkering with lawn mowers, complaining about his tv, and entrepreneurism, including making back scratchers.

Ron is survived by a son, Jason (Christy) Samples of Newark; a daughter, Jennifer (Jon) Miller of Newark; and four grandchildren, Miranda Wise of Bluffton, SC, and Jillian, Luke, and Carly Samples of Newark.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 30, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Knox County Joint veterans Council. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time.
