FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ- Roy Elwood Shurtz, 91 of Fountain Hills, AZ, formerly of Coshocton, OH passed away Friday March 30, 2012 at the Fountain View Village Nursing Home. He resided with his daughter & son-in law, Barb & Randy Phillips along with his wife Edna in Fountain Hills.
He was born in Dresden, OH on July 26, 1920 to William & Carrie (Skinner) Shurtz. After he graduated from Dresden High School in 1939, he married his wife of 71years, Edna Bowden on Aug 8, 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army in the South Pacific. While living in Dresden he was employed at the Dresden Paper Mill and owned a New Idea farm equipment business. In 1960 he was employed by the Stone Container Corp. in Coshocton until he retired in 1983. After he retired, he enjoyed repairing small engines and working in his shop. He was a member of the Dresden Masonic Lodge, 32nd Scottish Rite of Columbus, Shrine, American Legion and the Canal Lewisville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Shurtz, sister-in-law, Eleanor Shurtz, granddaughter, Heather Crider, and great granddaughter,Khole Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Edna Shurtz of Fountain Hills, AZ, three daughters; Karen Camden of Columbus, OH, Diane(Rocky) Crider of Peoria, AZ, and Barb (Randy) Phillips of Fountain Hills, AZ, four grandchildren; Angie(Joe) Stukey, Tonya Helman, Matthew(Andrea) Phillips and Courtney Phillips, and four great grandchildren; Alexandra Janusz, Elizabeth & Colin Phillips, and David Stukey.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 14, 2012 at the FISCHER FUNERAL HOME in Warsaw with Pastor Ron Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2-5 p.m. Friday, April 13th, and also one hour prior to service time on Saturday April 14th.
