Emblem Emblem

Samuel M. Lewis, 76, of Fredericktown, passed away, unexpectedly, at his home on June 6, 2025.

Sam was a proud Army veteran who proudly wore his Army Veteran baseball caps and, recently, at 74, he jumped out of an airplane as a proud tandem partner. He retired from his position of 35 years as a maintenance mechanic, from Ball Corporation, formerly Metal Container for which he worked the majority of his career.

Sam is preceded in death by his son Nathan, his parents Delmer and Marguarite, and his brother Delbert.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, of 56 years. He is also survived by his daughters Kelly Lewis of Mt. Vernon and Jennifer McKnight (Rodney) of Howard, grandchildren MaKenna and Kale Coe, both of Mt. Vernon, and Ryan Fields of Newark, and great-grandchildren Xander Hillyer, 3, and precious newborn Harmonee Barcus. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Hoadley (Robert) of Howard, Karen Gerome (Michael) of Columbus, and Eloise (James) Duncan of Mt. Vernon, as well as, sisters-in-law Joyce Thompson and Brenda Metzger, both of Mt. Vernon.

Sam is know as Papaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved by his family. He had a very close relationship with his great-grandson Xander. Xander and Papaw were best buddies and were stuck together like glue.

Sam loved gardening and could often be found outside doing yard work or working on his automobiles or tractors. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio Star Buckeyes.

Due to his hairy long white beard and red nose, he was often mistaken as Santa Claus by young children when out in public. His shoes cannot be filled, he was a superhero wearing a cape under his flannel shirts to his kids, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The Fischer Funeral Home is Danville is handling the arrangements.
