Danville- Shirley Ann Workman honored her Lord by living a life of commitment and devotion not only to Him, but also to her husband, children and grandchildren. On September 26, 1971 she married David Jay Workman and together they shared a life full of joy and laughter, creating memorable family moments. On Friday evening, January 1, 2010 at her residence, Shirley went home to be with the Lord after a long courageous battle with liver disease.
Shirley was born Nov. 9, 1947, in Ashland to Robert and Betty (Doup) Brennstuhl. She graduated from Loudonville High School in 1965 and graduated from Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Ashland in 1968. She enjoyed a long career as a Registered Nurse. She was an active member of the North Bend Church of the Brethren. She loved working alongside her family on their farm, gator rides on "her" JD Gator, but her pride and joy was reading to her four grandchildren and watching them grow.
She is survived by her loving and caring husband, David Jay Workman. Sons, Michael (Jennifer) Workman, their children Matthew & Christopher of Johnstown, Steven (Michele) Workman, their children Drew & Jaylyn of Danville, and Daughter, Rebecca Workman & Corey Westrick. Her father, Robert Brennstuhl, brothers, Bob, Larry (Lynn) & Gary (Bev) Brennstuhl, as well as many extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty (Doup) Brennstuhl.
The Workman Family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the North Bend Church of the Brethren, 24458 Orange Hill Rd., Danville. The funeral service and burial will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, at 11a.m. at the North Bend Church of the Brethren with Pastor Patrick Bailey officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made in Shirley's name to North Bend Church of Brethren; Women's fellowship, The Gideon's International; P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN, or www.gideons.org, or Cleveland Clinic Liver Transplant Foundation, 9500 Euclid Avenue , Cleveland, Ohio, 44195. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements.
