Brinkhaven - Thomas J. "T.J." Bowman died Sunday, August 18, 2013 at his residence.

He was born August 20, 1917 in Holloway to the late James A. and Mary R. (Lapp) Bowman. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1942 to 1946 with Company D, 322 Medical Battalion and the 97th Infantry. His tours included Germany, France, Czechoslovakia, and Tokyo. On June 23, 1946, he married Irene I. Smith.

T.J. was a member of the Tiverton Baptist Church. He participated in numerous military events and reunions, and was a member of the WWII Honor Flight. He also enjoyed traveling by train, and spending holidays and birthdays with his family. He just celebrated his 96th birthday a few days early.


Surviving is his wife, Irene, 7 children; Thomas A. (Peggy) Bowman of Concord, NC, Carolyn (Dick) Miller of Brinkhaven, Paula (Bill) Riley of Danville, Rachel (Jim) Myers of Danville, Nancy (Craig) Clouston of Brinkhaven, Marsha Bowman of Brinkhaven, and Jeff (Debra) Bowman of Danville, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, a sister, Emma Pearl Schaefer of Louisville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Michael Bowman, and sisters; Elizabeth Tuberville, Betty Campbell, and Rosetta Logston.

A funeral service will be held at Noon on Wednesday August 21, 2013 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. Pastor Bruce Butler will officiate. Burial, with graveside military rites by the Coshocton County Veterans Council, will follow in Tiverton Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 hours before service time. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
