Tom Gable

Zanesville – Harley Thomas "Tom" Gable, 85, formerly of Warsaw, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the Oaks at Bethesda.

Born on March 17, 1940, in Alliance, Ohio, Tom was the only child of the late Harve and Edna (Heacock) Gable. He was raised on the Heacock family farm near Sebring and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies from Muskingum University and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Ohio University.

Tom dedicated nearly three decades to the River View School District, where he taught history and geography. He also served as Principal of the Junior High School for 14 years before retiring in 1994.

In 1962, Tom married Carol (McFarland) Gable, and together they enjoyed a fulfilling life of family, travel, and community involvement. After retirement, they operated the Mary Harris House Bed and Breakfast, creating a welcoming space for guests and friends. A devoted Cleveland Indians (Guardians) fan, Tom also volunteered as part of the “Heavy Hitters” team, assisting with group ticket and club seat sales. He was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church in Coshocton.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; his parents; grandchildren Dylan and Birdie; and four great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Ogle, Beth Foster, Cindy Beache, and Brian Gable; his grandchildren, Michael, Jeff, Courtney, Kathryn, Tristan, Tyler, Rachel, Emilee, Jaret, and Aiden; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Rev. Deb Quillen officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service. Following cremation, a private family interment will take place at the Muskingum University Columbarium.
