Danville – Violet Marie (Smail) Vess, 87, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at The Laurels of Mt. Vernon.
Violet was born in Loudonville to the late Virgil and Eunice (Carter) Smail on September 28, 1936. She married Robert L. Vess on December 5, 1952. Together, they built two houses, and their own SM Fleet trucking business which they both drove for. Violet was also a former Avon Lady, and was very crafty. She was involved with the Garden Club for many years. Her husband preceded her in death on November 23, 2021. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dianna, her daughter, Nancy Kunkel; granddaughter, Jennifer Norris; and a great granddaughter, Alexis Norris.
Surviving are her children, Debra (Jim) Byers of Danville, Mike Vess of Danville, Don (Laurie) Vess of Danville, D. Lynne (Steve) Walkerow of Wooster, Jim Vess of Wetumka, AL, Paul (Dyanna) Vess of Danville, and Sarah Vess of the home; 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Harold Kunkel of Mount Vernon.
Calling hours for family and friends will take place from 4-6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. A graveside service will be held in Workman Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, with Stan Ratliff officiating.
