Danville – Walter “Wally” Zimelis, 70, passed away Friday February 27, 2015 at his residence.
Walter was born, the eldest of 5 children, October 9, 1944 in Hamburg, Germany to Anna (Domchuk) Joseph Zimelis, Sr. The family of Joe, Anna, Walter, and Zena immigrated to America in January of 1951. He graduated from Danville High School in 1963, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force right after graduation. He was honorably discharged, and served in the reserves for two years. He loved his country.
He attended the DeVry Institute in Columbus where he earned a degree in electronics. He then went to work with NCR in Cambridge for many years, which he loved. He also loved coin collecting, playing cards with his Tuesday night buddies, taking pictures of the guys riding the 4-wheelers, and using his telescope to gaze at the stars and moon, and follow the space station.
Wally is survived by his mother, Anna of Danville, sisters; Zena (Ed ) Tickle, and Jane Crooks both of Mount Vernon, brothers; Joe (Pam) Zimelis, and Oscar (Patti) Zimelis both of Danville, nieces and nephews; Lisa (Louie) Tickle, Ed Tickle, Jr. (Nicole McNichols), Jessica (Tibor) Warganich, Samantha, Katlyn, and John Zimelis, and Brian and Erica Boeshart, and great nices and nephews; Jason Zimelis, Maddie Pope, Joey Tickle, Aiden Zimelis, Zoey Warganich, and Ava White. He was preceded in death by his father.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday March 3, at the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville. Father Homer Blubaugh will officiate. A private interment will be held. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.
