Coshocton- William Lewis Smith, Sr., 78, formerly of Blissfield, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 30, 1930 in Millersburg to the late Theodore "Ted" and Nellie (Stricker) Smith. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949-1953. He married Delores Jean (Johnson) on Dec. 16, 1978, whom preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 2006. He was a member of the Blissfield U.M.C., Gospel Hill Ministries, Eagles Aerie #761, and enjoyed to camp, especially at Salt Fork.
He is survived by two daughters; Beckie Smith of Coshocton, Tammy Smith of Delaware, two sons; Kile (Sherrie) Smith of Coshocton, and William Lewis Smith, Jr. of Coshocton, three step-sons; Dean (Brenda) Hayes of Fresno, Ron (Laura) Hayes of Coshocton, and James Hayes of Coshocton, a step-daughter, Jolyn (Steve) Dean of Warsaw, four grandchildren; Billy, Rom, Nichole, and Nequia, eleven step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; Koda, Chance, Austin, Bristol, and Waverly, one step-great-grandchild, three brothers; Jack (Marie) Smith of CO, Ed (Jane) Smith of Canal Lewisville, and Charles (Pat) Lanning of Coshocton, two sisters, Linda (Ron) Rahe of Columbus, and Betty (Charlie) Miller of Killbuck.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Smith, a grandson, Kile Smith, Jr., and twin brothers, Melvin & Marvin Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Rev. Ron Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Blissfield Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council. Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and also one hour prior to service time on Wednesday.
