Don Stanton

October 20, 1945 — May 6, 2017

BUTLER- Harry Donald “Don” Stanton, 71, went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at his residence.

He was born Oct. 20, 1945 in Russellville, KY to the late Harry Donald Stanton and Josephine E. (Cates) Stanton Landis.  Don lived in Evansville, IN and is a proud member of the Benjamin Bosse Bulldogs Class of 1964.  Don enlisted in the Navy in 1963 and served on aircraft carriers Saratoga and Ranger.  Drafting was his profession, and his experience included working for the City Engineers Office in Evansville.  In 1979, he moved to Ohio with his wife, Ellen.  He worked for the Grumman Flxible Bus Co. in Loudonville, and later ran a drafting service from his home.

He is a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville, an Oblate of St. Benedict for the Sisters at the Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, IN.  Don was a lifetime member of the DAV and a member of the American Legion.  He loved family reunions; enjoyed fishing, hand tool wood-working, and genealogy research.

Don was a devoted husband and friend.  Known to be a gentle giant, he was kind to all creatures and will be missed by his faithful feline companions “Dodger” and “Zoe”.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ellen (Fischer) Stanton of Butler; two sisters, Annie L. Gregg of Evansville, IN, and Joan (John) Lytle of Indianapolis, IN; sisters-in-law, Karen L. (William) Pike and Ingrid A. Amara; a brother-in-law, John Schuck; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Sherman Peterson Landis; a sister, Jean Schuck; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Robert E. Gregg.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke Church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, with Father Homer Blubaugh officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Knox Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9th at the church, as well as one hour prior to service time on Wednesday.  The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements.  www.fischerfuneralhome.com
