Donald R. Cummings

                WALHONDING- Donald Ray Cummings, 78, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at The Oaks at Northpointe in Zanesville, surrounded by his family.

                He was born July 22, 1944 in Greene Co., PA to the late Ray Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Glover) Cummings. Following high school, he worked for General Electric and in oil fields for many years.

                Don was an active member of Perry Chapel Baptist Church, Three Rivers Masonic Lodge #799, and he was a Perry Township Trustee for 34 years. He was also a member of the Ohio Percheron Association, having raised over 20 Percheron horses in total, taking them to parades, weddings, and funerals.

                He was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring “pappaw”. He loved attending his grandkids’ sporting events, and going on family vacations to the beach (that is after he was convinced to go on that first trip!). He enjoyed spending time in the barn with his horses, “Tony” & “Fred”. He also liked hunting, fishing trips to Canada, and bus trips with friends all over the country.

                Don is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Beverly (Speckman) Cummings, whom he married July 17, 1964; a son, Michael (Shelley) Cummings; daughter, Sandy (Lane) Belangia; grandchildren, Chelsey Belangia (Matt) Wade, Taner (Eliza Haynes) Belangia, and Hayley Cummings; great-grandchildren, Landenn & Easton Wade; and a sister, Joretta Martin.

                In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ken Martin; and a nephew, Gary Martin.

                Per Don’s wishes, cremation will take place and a private burial at New Castle Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Perry Chapel Baptist Church, 19476 TR 380 Warsaw, OH 43844, with Pastor Bob Adelsperger officiating.
