James Allen, III Obituary

 

                GREAT FALLS, VA- James Dillino Allen, III, 81, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 in Fairfax, VA of Burkitt’s Lymphoma.  

                He was born Dec. 7, 1939 in Coshocton to the late James Dillino Allen, Jr. and Beulah M. (Simmons) Allen. He was a 1957 graduate of Warsaw High School, where he was active in Student Council as both a class officer and President of Student Council, Future Farmers of America, Amateur Actors, and baseball. He was later a 1962 graduate of The Ohio State University, and earned a Master’s Degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute as an Electrical Engineer. He embarked on a 50-year career as an Electrical Designer, Systems Engineer, Software Developer, Proposal Writer, and Management Consultant. He spent 25 years on U.S. Navy & Air Force programs, making significant contributions to the Peacekeeper Missile and ICBM Minuteman Missile projects. He also worked on the SQQ-89 Navy Cruiser Combat System, GPS receivers in the F-16 Fighter aircraft, and the National Missile Defense System. He was an active member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers, serving in various branches and receiving multiple awards.

                Since retiring, Jim got a ‘Fitbit” and began daily long walks in his neighborhood. He enjoyed chatting with everyone along the way, and earned a “Pole to Pole” award from “Fitbit”, for eclipsing 12,430 miles. Not content with just walking around the neighborhood, he also walked on the Great Wall of China, on Machu Pichu, at the Taj Mahal, around the Parthenon, and around many other foreign cities and towns.

                He and Mary loved Square Dancing, and were involved in many Square Dancing Clubs. He was always interested in politics, and spent over 30 years as an Elections Officer and Chief of the Fairfax Co. Board of Elections.

                  He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary (Hellman) Allen of Great Falls, VA; his children, Shanua (Arshid) Joo of North Carolina, Bryan Allen of Virginia, and Ann Marie (Steve) Carr of Colorado, John (Alison) Allen of Florida, Matt (Beth) Allen of Georgia, Chris (Ana) Allen of Florida, and Ken (Connie) Allen of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Karen (Leon) Locke of Warsaw; and nieces & nephews, Lisa (Chuck) Johnson of Warsaw, Alan (Denise) Locke of Dallas, TX, Linda (Ben) Fox of Dauphin, Manitoba Canada, Laura (Jason) Kehler of Carman, Manitoba Canada, Teena (Tino) Shaw of Coshocton, and their families.

                In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Lee Allen.

                A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2022 at McElwee Park in New Castle, with Pastor Ashley McMillin officiating. A time of fellowship will follow. The Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is assisting the family. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
