MT. VERNON- James Allen Conant, Sr., 85, died Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Country Club Rehabilitation Campus in Mt. Vernon, where he was a resident.
He was born March 3, 1934 in Parkersburg, WV to the late John Thomas and Blondina (Carpenter) Conant. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He married Delores Margaret (Baumgartner) on May 21, 1955, who preceded him in death on April 29, 1998. He enjoyed traveling; including the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. he attended in 2014. He also enjoyed trap shoots and turkey shoots.
He is survived by a son, James A. Conant, Jr. of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Patricia (Dennis) Smith of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Benjamin (Elizabeth) Smith of Mt. Liberty, and Erica (Shannon) Cline of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandchildren, Nadia, Maycee, Alex, & Evie; four brothers, Jack Conant of Marietta, Dale (Linda) Conant of Wallace, WV, Paul (Claudia) Conant of Canton, and Thomas Conant of Indiana; a sister, Janet (Jerry) Butterfield of West Lake, LA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Conant.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Valley Cemetery in Monroe Township, with military rites performed by the Knox Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
