John R. Zimmerman

                WARSAW- John Zimmerman, 71, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 after a long period of declining health.

                He was born April 15, 1949 in Orrville to the late John G. and Theresa J. (Sandella) Zimmerman. To everyone who knew him it was widely known he was an outdoorsman. He liked to hunt and fish and always had a project or 50 going on. Not everyone knew that he could rid you of hiccups with a special rhyme or that he once wrestled a monkey or had the pleasure of hearing the pride in his voice when he talked about “The Clock.” He liked to do things his way and expected others to follow suit. :)

                John was a Marine, a Vietnam Veteran who was both proud and tormented by his time in the service. He was a graduate of Orrville High School and had a long career with Orrville Municipal Utilities.

                His cabin on the river was enjoyed by many and he loved to be the host. Family and friends from Ohio to Florida and states in between are left with the memories of someone who loved them the best way he knew how.

                To John, friends were family and he spoke with excitement about seeing so many loved ones again- including favorite huntin' dogs.

                Veteran, Dad, Brother, Grandpa, Son, Friend - you will be greatly missed.

                In recent years John could not tolerate the cold and neither can his Southern family, for this reason and due to COVID risks, memorial events will take place at a warmer and safer time. But for today, in recognition of the life of John Zimmerman… catch a fish, spend time with a friend, feed the birds or have an Easter Egg hunt this July 4th, because he liked that too.
