John "Ben" Hissong

                Danville – John “Ben” Hissong, 65, went home to be with the Lord peacefully at his residence while surrounded by his four daughters and family nearby on Thursday, March 8, 2018.

                He was born in Mount Vernon on September 27, 1952 to Margie Louise (Bryan) and David Hissong, Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1976, and was an electrical engineer who worked for Divelbiss Corp. for over 29 years. He was also the proprietor of Big Ben's Fixit Service, where he established a client base in the surrounding Knox County area providing a range of services from electrical, home improvement, and plumbing, to small engine repair.

                Ben was a very meticulous and analytical person who enjoyed tinkering, especially with electronics, and was an all around handy man. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, traveling, and he was a strong believer in Jesus Christ our Savior, often reading and studying his Bible. He also played guitar and keyboard, and loved writing; from poetry, to songs, to his blog (http://jbhwonders.blogspot.com/search/label/tidbits2).

                He is survived by his mother, Margie Hissong of Danville, his children and their spouses; Megan (Ryan) Smith of Mount Vernon, Amber Bush of Millwood, Jessica (Samuel) Russell of Mount Vernon, and Shannon (Brian) Frame of Ashland, 6 grandchildren; Amberlynn Grayce, Maleah, Kyle, Averi, Molli, and Korbyn, siblings; David Hissong Jr. of Danville, Connie Brewer of Missouri, Keith (Lane) Hissong of Texas, Brenda Pence of Danville, and Wendy (Brian) Sowders of Mount Vernon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

                He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Timothy Hissong.

                A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday March 12 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. Tom Orr officiating. Visitation will begin at noon. A graveside interment will follow in Mound View Cemetery, with Military Honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
