Lance Boone Obituary

With great sadness, the family of Lance Lee Boone announce his passing on April 13, 2023, surrounded by his family at home. Lance will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Joanne; children: Jamey (Dianna) Boone, Andrea (Dave) Jones, Jason (Sandy) Boone, and Amy (Dusty) Buckingham; grandchildren: Ian (Morgan) Green, Colton (Jasmen) Boone, Gracey Boone, Emily (William) Gaines, Eliza (Seth) Rager, Reagan (Joshua) Whisman, Lance and Zachary Jones, Quincey, Marley, and Willow Boone, Olivia (Kyle) Pelc, Sydney and Abigail Buckingham; Great grandchildren: Charlotte Green, Avery Boone, Parker Rager, Ronald Whisman, Miles and Amelia Pelc, and two more on the way! Lance is also survived by his mother, Jeanie Boone, a sister, Gwen (Larry) Hall, brother-in-law Dennis Lamb, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Born on Christmas Day, 1947, to Robert (Bob) and Glenna (Jeanie) Boone, Lance got his first glance at his future wife two days later when Joanne Staats also arrived at Mercy Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Lance graduated from Danville High School in 1966 before going on to earn his Associate's Degree in Agricultural Business Technology from Clark County Technical Institute. As a competitive athlete, Lance excelled in basketball, football, and track. And many stories circulate about his jumping ability in basketball. One referee supposedly stopped the game for a redo of the jump ball after Lance out jumped a much taller opponent, and his Converse were also stolen in order for the thief to check for springs! Lance served in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years, earning the rank of Lance Corporal, the National Defense Service Medal, and Expert Rifleman Badge.

On March 14, 1970, he married his "Josey" and welcomed four children in the next few years. Lance found an outlet for his passion for agriculture, tractors, trucks, and livestock while working on Joanne's family's dairy farm. He took great pride in his flock of registered Rambouillet sheep and always had a companion dog at his side. Skills in mechanics proved invaluable on the farm as Lance repaired farm machinery or invented contraptions to increase productivity. In later years, Lance pursued careers in automotive body work, professional and competitive sheep shearing, as well as home, barn, and equipment refinishing and painting. His attention to detail in his professional career was mirrored in his dedicated love for family.

Following their retirement, Lance and Joanne built a home in the Apple Valley Community of Howard, Ohio where many family gatherings are held. Lance loved having his 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren around. As a man of few words, Lance would often end time together by leaning in to touch foreheads and say, "Great party'' and "I love you, honey".

Lance was preceded in death by his father, Robert Boone, a sister Melissa Boone, and on the morning of April 14, 2023, a second sister, Jennifer Lamb, followed him into his eternal reward.
