Danville – Larry Shrimplin, 82, passed away on Thursday October 29, 2020 at the Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
“Shrimpy” was born May 22, 1938 to Paul W. and Ida Belle (Deck) Shrimplin. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1962 and married Marlene Ann McMillan on June 16, 1963. He spent many millions of miles behind the wheel of a truck during his life. He drove for the McFarland Brothers from 1962-1973, Bill Parr from 1973-2008, and Ron Hawk from 2008 to 2015. If he wasn’t on the road, you might spot him in the front row of a football, basketball, or softball game since he was a big fan of Danville High School sports, and you were very likely run into him at Spearman’s Restaurant, The Hot Spot, The Hangout, or The Lyons Den, since he was the unofficial town greeter.
Larry is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Dalton of Danville and Rhonda Crow of Newark, his grandchildren, Natalie Dalton and Devon Crow, and his sister, Patsy (Lanny) Lyons of Danville.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Lee Shrimplin on Nov. 15, 1992, his mother on April 26, 1994, his father on January 14, 1995, his brother, Michael on March 14, 1998, his wife, Marlene on July 15, 2009, his sister, Bonnie Miller on November 24, 2018, and his son-in-law Larry Dalton on July 19, 2020.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at noon on Saturday October 31 at the Workman Cemetery in Danville. Father Homer Blubaugh will officiate. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard will also conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District, PO Box 526 Danville, 43014.
