Coshocton - Lucy Jo Baumgardner passed away on April 5, 2021 at Windsorwood Place in Coshocton. She was born on May 11, 1923 to the late Dale W. Dye and Keziah Day Dye of Meigs County.
Lucy Jo married C. Chester Baumgardner on October 1, 1950. Chester preceded her in death on January 24, 2007. Three siblings and their spouses; Dale (Grace) Dye, Alvin (Madge) Dye, and Dawn (Clyde) Walker preceded her in death as well as brothers-in-law Peter Kepner and Glenn Irwin, nieces Ruth and Gail Dye, Dawna Jo Walker and nephew Charles Dye.
A 1941 graduate of Columbia High School and a 1949 graduate of Ohio State University, she began her teaching career at Union High School in the fall of 1949 and returned to teaching in the River View Local School District in 1965 after a fourteen year break from the classroom.
Chester and Lucy had four children: Michael (Bobi), Sue (Pat Power), Jill, and Timothy (Rachel). Her three grandchildren are Brandon (Ashley), Sarah (Nate) Martin, and Brittany (Steven) Bechtel. Great grandchildren are Elyza Baumgardner, Hadley Clinedinst, Cooper and Cameron Van Cleef, Owen Martin, and Asia and Micah Bechtel. Lucy will also be missed by dear family friend, Chuck Fry.
While their children were young, Lucy and Chet traveled to most of the states in their camper. After Lucy’s retirement in 1983, Lucy and Chet traveled in many countries. Lucy and her sisters Dawn Walker, Celia Irwin, and Mary Kepner traveled often together attending many Elderhostels. They delighted in playing cards wherever they went. In addition to traveling, Lucy Jo enjoyed gardening, reading, writing letters and scoring bargains at auctions.
Lucy was a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church for 62 years where she belonged to The Class of Hope and United Methodist Women. She also joined Farm Bureau Council, Phi Upsilon Omicron, Delta Kappa Gamma, Keene Happy Neighbors, J.F. Lautenslager Chapter of Retired Teachers, Ya Ya Sisterhood Reading Club, and the Senior Center Reading Club. She enjoyed her friends at water aerobics for many years and spent several years volunteering at the Johnson Humerickhouse Museum in Roscoe Village.
Calling hours are Friday, April 9th at Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw from 5:00-7:00 P.M, and one hour prior to the service. A memorial service will be held at the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, 45494 County Road 23 Coshocton, 43812, on Saturday, April 10th starting at 1:00. Pastor Dail Parrish will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery. COVID protocols will be followed at both venues.
