Mariam Lyons Obituary

Danville – Mariam (Payne) Lyons, 84, passed away at the Grant Medical Center on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

Mariam was born on December 15, 1938, to Dwight and Violet (Logston) Payne. She graduated from Danville High School in 1956 and at the age of 17 she married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Lyons. They spent 48 years happily married and started a beautiful life together. Her true passions in life included farming and caring for her dairy cows. Even in her later years, she continued to reside on the farm where she raised her family and passed down her strong work ethic to her children. Each spring you would find her in the woods hunting those elusive morel mushrooms and, in the fall, looking for that golden ginseng root.

She was an active and caring woman who spent most of her life thinking about others. She always surrounded herself with her friends and family, which is where she felt most comfortable and loved. You could almost always find her at the school, park or baseball field watching sporting events and showing her love of the Danville Blue Devils.

Mariam is survived by her three children, Julie Miller, Lyle (Marsha) Lyons, Jennifer (Ron) Summers; six grandchildren, Ben (Kristie), Anthony (Kim), Adam (Julie) Miller, Toni Lyons, Ryan (Daina) Sapp, Jamie Summers; 10 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; three siblings, Evelyn Frazier, Pat Lyons and Craig (Sue) Payne, sister-in-law Patsy Lyons and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Nedra Wears and Rose Payne; brothers, Lawrence Payne, Harold Payne; brothers-in-laws, Delroyce Frazier, Lynn Lyons, Larry Lyons, Lee Lyons, and Lanny Lyons; as well as sisters-in-laws, Doris Payne, Iva Payne, and Sharon Lyons.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville, with Patrick Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6-8:00 Wednesday evening. Memorial donations can be made to the Danville Athletic Boosters, in care of Lanna Staats, 28388 Jelloway Rd. Danville, 43014.
