WALHONDING- Nancy Norma (Hughes) Howard, 72, was often known to use the phrase “once in a blue moon”, and on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023 she passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Licking Memorial Hospital under a super blue moon.
She was born Nov. 2, 1950 in Zanesville to the late Bernard and Mollie (Landis) Hughes. She worked at various places but spent the better part of 30 years at the Mt. Vernon Developmental Center as a beautician.
Nancy was a Lamb of God with a Lion's roar. She was a proud holder of a Class III firearms license, which is not an easy thing to accomplish. She loved animals, fashion & beauty, and traveling. She believed in fairness in all aspects of life and in everything she did.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca (Mark) Peters of Max Meadows, VA, Jim Howard of New Guilford, and David (Betsy) Howard of Utica; her grandchildren, Kristina LeBlanc of Galax, VA, Joshua (Kelsie) Peters of Omaha, NE, Desa (Kyrus) Daniels of Utica, Hayla & Jenna Howard, both of Johnstown, and Violet Miller & Arlo Howard of Utica; five great-grandchildren, Maddox & Elias, and Lorallei, Mia, & Zane; siblings; Bernard (Mary) Hughes, Jr. of Walhonding, Joann Moore of Mt. Vernon, Betty Jean (Ronald) Olson of Mt. Vernon, and Susie Elliot of Newcomerstown; a sister-in-law Mary Hughes of Fallsburg; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie & Larry Hughes; and three sisters, Darlene Hughes, Nadine (Alvin) Olson, Margaret Willey.
Per Nancy’s wishes, cremation will take place and a private service will be held at a later date. Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is handling arrangements. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
