Paul Thompson Obituary

                Mount Vernon – Paul J. Thompson, 93, formerly of Coshocton, passed away on Friday June 18, 2021 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.

                He was born in Mount Vernon on March 6, 1928. He was the son of the late Paul L. and Jetty (Grizzle) Thompson. Paul attended Mount Vernon Schools, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1951. He went on to work 21 years at Cooper-Bessemer, and retired from Simco Surface Mine in 1990 after 18 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. 1330, belonged to UMWA Local 1188, and attended the Second St. Church of God in Coshocton.

                In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine (Mowery) Thompson in May of 1968, and his second wife, Zelma (Fry) Thompson in September of 2012, sons, Kirk and Keith Thompson, a sister, Joan (Floyd) Smith, a brother, Jake Thompson, a great grandchild, a half-brother, Gary, a step-brother, Gene Gates, son-in-law, Lyndon Slaughter, and step mother, Ruth Thompson.

                He is survived by two daughters, Charlene (Larry) Henry of Howard, and Marlene Slaughter of Nellie, two sons, Kevin Thompson, and Kriss (Treva) Thompson both of Coshocton, three step sons, 10 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, a special brother-in-law, Robert Fry, and several nieces and nephews.

                At Paul’s request, a private graveside service with military rites from the Knox County Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard will take place. The Fischer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
