DANVILLE- Wayne E. Behner, 101, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 at Brookdale Senior Living in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Sept. 21, 1922 in Pittsfield Twp., Lorain Co. to the late Benjamin and Ethel (Opdyke) Behner. He was a 1940 graduate of Mt. Vernon Academy. He was a farmer and a general contractor, starting his career in LaGrange. Upon moving to the Danville area, Camp Mohaven was his first large project, where he stayed on as caretaker. He specialized in foundation work, especially on old houses, barns and churches. He loved flying, and owned and piloted a Piper Cub for many years. He loved reminiscing about his flying days. He enjoyed missionary work, and Maranatha trips. He was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol (Timothy) Jones of Firestone, CO and Linda (Oza) Rodgers of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Dr. E. Dale (Lynn) Behner of Cicero, IN and Jay E. (Sheila) Behner of Marengo; grandchildren, Amy (Jeremy) Martin, Bryan (Ruth) Dawson, Chad (Susan) Brownfield,, Andrew (Angie) Brownfield, Lafe Brownfield, Jay (Dawn) Brownfield, Nicolas (Bianca) Behner, Ryan (Samantha) Behner, Tadd Behner, Corey (Joel) Dickerson, and Joe Behner, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Goronzy of Fredericktown; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two wives, Velma J. (Sevison) Behner and Dorothy J. (Richardson) Behner; a sister, Donna Porco; and two brothers, Russell H. Behner and Charles A. Behner.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023 at Fischer Funeral Home in Danville, with Chaplain Dave Matos officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, Nov. 13th from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
